AMS UARA Race Belongs To Bassett, Hooper Picks Up First FWD Victory
Ronnie Bassett claimed the official victory in the United Auto Racing Association (UARA-Stars) 150 lap race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night June 14, 2013. Travis Swaim led the first one hundred forty nine laps of the race but failed to lead the most important one. But Swaim had help with his demise on the final lap of the race. As Swaim headed into turn four on the 149th lap of the race Ronnie Bassett slammed into the rear of his car which sent Swaim to the high side of the track and allowed Bassett to take over the racing groove. The two were side by side when the white flag dropped on the race. As the two headed into turn one Swaim tried to pinch Bassett off in order to make a run off of turn two. Unfortunately for Swaim he lost more control of his car than Bassett did. This allowed Bassett to pull away from him and lead the final half a lap and receive the checkered flag. Following the race both drivers commented on the exchange and neither appeared to be entirely happy with each other. The victory was the fifth for Bassett in the UARA division at the Anderson Motor Speedway. For a complete rundown go to the UARA website at uara-stars.com. Travis Swaim finished second. Garrett Campbell finished third. Dillon Bassett finished fourth. RA Brown finished fifth. Charlie Hooper claimed the official victory in the Front Wheel Drive race. BJ Davis led the first lap of the race before he relinquished the top spot to Brian King. Once out front King pulled away from the field and received the checkered flag. During the middle of the race Charlie Hooper battled past BJ Davis to move into the second position. Hooper crossed the finish line second behind King. Following the race King failed to pass post race inspection and the official victory was awarded to Hooper. BJ Davis finished second. Robert Hall finished third. Tommy Davis finished fourth. Casey Burkett finished fifth. Donald Vaughn claimed the official victory in the Carolina Vintage Cars race. Phil Terry led the first four laps of the race before he was passed by Johnny O’Neal.
